Ever wanted to help readers navigate to specific parts of your newsletter?

Maybe you want to add a table of contents to your newsletter so readers can navigate to a specific section straight away. Or perhaps you want to direct readers to their preferred language without having to scroll. Or make it easy for readers to navigate a long newsletter with multiple sections. All of this is now possible thanks to the Internal navigation feature which is set up in 2 simple steps:

Step 1: Set up your Anchor

The anchor is the part of our newsletter you want your readers to be able to navigate to. In order to do this:

  • Click on the anchor icon on the left where you want to direct readers to

  • Name the anchor (without using spaces) then click ' Save '. If you want to use two words you can use caps, for example 'TravelGuides'

  • You know your anchor is set correctly when the anchor icon turns blue:

Step 2: Set up the link to this Anchor

You can link to the Anchor in multiple ways:

  • By hyperlinking text

  • From a call to action button

  • From an image

Linking to an Anchor with Hyperlink text

First select the text you want to Link the anchor to and then;

  • Click on the Hyperlink icon in the text editor

  • Click on the Anchor icon in the 'URL' input field and select the relevant Anchor from the list

  • Hit OK and you're done.

Note that as an option, you can also add a 'Title' in the third field which is some text that will show in a little bubble when your readers hover their mouse on top of your text like the ' Sun is over here! ' message shown in the above GIF.

Linking to an Anchor from a Call to Action Button

Click on the Call to Action button to open the editing menu then:

  • Click on the Anchor icon in the 'Hyperlink' input field and select the relevant Anchor from the list

  • Hit 'Apply' at the bottom of the editing menu and you're done.

Linking to an Anchor from an image

Click on the ' Edit image ' option showing when you hover on your image then:

  • Click on the Anchor icon in the 'Add a hyperlink' field and select the relevant Anchor from the list

  • Hit 'Apply' at the bottom of the editing menu and you're done.

Step 3: Let your readers be amazed :)

Pro-Tips 🌟

Managing a long newsletter with Call to Action buttons redirecting to the Content Table

If your newsletter is quite long and you have a Content table at the top, help out your readers by adding at regular intervals CTA Buttons which bring them back to the Content table:

Testing your internal navigation before sending the Newsletter

To check that your internal navigation is set up properly, use the Preview mode by clicking the 'Preview' button in the top right corner of the Editor. From there you can click on each redirect and check that they work fine. Those clicks won't count towards your Analytics.

Anticipating responsive design outcomes

Some email providers have not yet started to support internal navigation on mobile devices. You can see here which email providers support this feature on mobile.

If you're concerned about this, we suggest adding a message at the top of your Newsletter advising to view the newsletter from Desktop whenever possible.
